Rudy obtained his degree in law at UGent in 1981. The following year, he obtained a licentiate in criminological sciences at the same university and was a candidate in political and social sciences.

He has been active as a lawyer at the Bar of Dendermonde since 1 October 1983.

Rudy specialises in a broad range of areas of law. In criminal law, he handles cases involving road traffic offences and proceedings before the criminal court and the court of appeal. In civil law, he is active in liability law, proceedings relating to personal injury and insurance matters. In employment law, he has expertise in education law, workplace bullying and harassment, dismissal and occupational accidents. He is also active in social security law and medical law — with particular attention to medical accidents and negligence — and sports law.
