A clean criminal record extract again? Rehabilitation can offer a fresh start
Your sentence has been served and the events may already be years behind you. Nevertheless, an old conviction may still appear on an extract from your criminal record. This may have consequences when applying for a job or a permit, or when building your professional future. Many people do not know that, under certain conditions, they can apply for criminal rehabilitation.
What does rehabilitation involve?
When rehabilitation is granted, the convictions concerned are, in principle, no longer listed on extracts from the criminal record.
If no other entries remain, you may therefore obtain a clean criminal record extract again.
Rehabilitation does not erase the past, but it can prevent an old conviction from continuing to determine your future indefinitely.
Are you eligible?
Broadly speaking, the sentences imposed must have been served and the fines, legal costs and compensation due must have been paid.
A statutory rehabilitation period also applies, and you must demonstrate good conduct and rehabilitation until the decision is made.
The conditions and time limits depend on the convictions and the sentences imposed. They must therefore be assessed separately in each case.
How can we help?
FAIRWAY can assess whether you are eligible for rehabilitation, which time limit applies to your case and which documents are required.
Where an application is possible, we can prepare and guide you through the entire procedure.
